For the past couple of weeks, I've been having trouble connecting to certain areas. This started almost completely out of the blue, with no problems beforehand of this manner. Like others have stated in threads I read about in this forum, I was not behind a router or a firewall and I still had the could not connect error. I also was unable to connect to the main guildwars webpage for some reason, which got me thinking, it might be something wrong with my network card.

I did a little playing around, following advice on this forum (unplugging my cable and other things) and ended up nearly trashing my computer and network connection, but on my first attempt, I accomplished nothing else. Then my internet connection got more and more unstable, and I decided to try something different.

I went to NVidia (the manufacturer of my motherboard) and downloaded the unified driver for my Nforce 3 board. These drivers include the network driver for the onboard nic card. I installed it again and lo and behold, everything seems to work. I got on with my character who had been almost permantly stuck in an area (until I changed my region to Europe and got him out of there, for some reason changing my region to Europe also cured err=5), and went specifically to the areas I could not load by jumping to. No problems at all.

My advice to people who are having problems is to try this. It may or may not work, I know. And also I know how frustrating it is to have a solution that works for one person and not for another, all while other users are saying they're not having any trouble at all. I know how frustrating that is, which is why I'm posting my find here. I'm hoping this will help someone get things working, or at least give them an idea on where to begin. Good luck.
